Every year, the Spanish Society of Cardiology publishes its registry which counts the number of implanted automatic implantable defibrillator (ICD) devices in Spain, with 2020 being the latest year to be published.
The results show that 7,056 implantation records were received in 2020, compared to the 7,106 reported by Eucomed. The number of hospitals participating in the count is 173, and all this shows that the compliance rate is over 99%.
The decrease in the number of ICD implantations would reflect the reduction in hospital activity unrelated to COVID-19 patient treatment. Similar to previous years, the total number of implants in Spain continues to be much lower than the European Union average, with an increase in the differences between the Spanish autonomous communities.
